Selling one of my old cellos!

20 Jan

Every once in a while it is time to let go. Shift, change, new energy. And so it is time for me to sell my oldest instrument, my “gypsy” cello. Estimated to be over 200 years old, it has served me well on many recordings and is immortalized on quite a few CDs that I played cello on. I’m looking for the perfect next owner who wants to own and take care of an older cello and who appreciates the marks of time that are imbedded in this sweet instrument. If you are looking for something new and racy, this might not be it; but if you are intrigued by an instrument that is oozing history, that will tell you stories of countless musical moments (including countless sessions with Hans!), than this may be worth a look.

I found this sweetheart dusted over and forgotten in a storage room of a music store in Hannover, Germany in 2005, and as soon as I picked it up to play I was hooked! There was a mystery around this cello that fascinated me. I ended up bringing it back to the US and asked Gerald Field of Field violinworkshop in Highland Park IL to give it a complete makeover. His expert touch stabilized old cracks, reshaped some marks of time, and added a new finger board (the old one was made of cherry wood!). So, here it is: http://www.hanschristianmusic.com/old-german-cello.html

Next owner, please step forward!

Mastering, editing, and assembling existing pieces from several previous CDs, and also adding some new pieces that have not been published before. Holiday letter from Hans Christian

27 Nov

Dear friends,

as this year is drawing to a close I feel a calling to reach out to friends near and far and share a brief recap of 2013, as it unfolded in my life. I hope that this message finds you well and in the flow, and explains why I have been so out of touch with some of you. Please stay in touch in the New Year!!

Love and Light,

Hans

——————–

2013 was another year packed with musical adventures. Beginning last New Year’s eve, I found myself onstage at Sat Nam Fest in Tepotzlan, Mexico, cheering in the New Year while playing with Mirabai Ceiba. What an auspicious start!

Early in 2013 I was traveling to the East Coast repeatedly for rehearsals and concerts with the GuruGanesha Band, and also to visit my sweetheart Laurel in the Boston area. Driving was a recurring experience in 2013, and I put in over 40,000 miles this year!

April found me driving to Joshua Tree CA for a concert with GuruGanesha at Sat Nam Fest West, followed by a solo West Coast tour. That tour was so very sweet, thanks to the angels that invited me to their homes and venues, and the highlight was undoubtedly my concert at the amazing AMBIcon festival, organized by Stephen Hill of Hearts Of Space. I am looking forward to another solo tour in April/May of 2014 and am in the process of preparing concerts right now with the expert help of Lloyd Barde.

The GuruGanesha Band showed up for rehearsals and concerts at my house in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin twice this year (July and August). We played at Bhakti Fest Midwest in Madison and in Sturgeon Bay at the venerable TAP (Third Ave Playhouse). We also christened the new Sanctuary Center in my building with a lively kirtan. It was packed and such a great event!

In early September the big tour with ‘the GG Band’ started- first with a “quick” appearance at Bhakti Fest in Joshua Tree, CA, and then the first official tour concert in Chicago, in tandem with Deva Premal & Miten, under the banner “Mantra Fest 2013”. We played 27 concerts in 25 cities all over North America and had the experience of a lifetime. Venues often held over 1000 people per night, and GG graciously asked me to open every night with a short solo performance on cello. Thanks GG! The chemistry between both bands during the tour was outstanding, and Deva, Miten, Manose and Maneesh were true friends during this adventure. I brought my car as part of the vehicle fleet for this tour and drove 14,600 miles in two months!

So what happened inbetween all these travels? Well, remember the recording studio? I was very busy with several major CD productions with these wonderful artists:

Bhava Ram (CD title: Song Of My Soul, 2013)

Charanpal Kaur (CD Title: Simran Sadhana, 2013)

Jaya Lakshmi&Ananda (CD Title: Saraswati Dreams, release date 7/2014)

Pam Gerrand (not yet completed)

Russill Paul (not yet titled)

…plus a number of other projects….

The rest of the year will be spent in the studio, working on a live CD with the GuruGanesha Band from recordings of the Mantra Fest tour.

Finally, the Sanctuary Center, located in my building in Sturgeon Bay is really blossoming with regular yoga classes, weekly meditations, and special events. Upcoming events include a three day program called “A spiritual preparation for Christmas” , presented by Hans Christian and ordained minister and certified kundalini yoga teacher Carol Hackbardt, with deep sharing, prayer, meditation, pilgrimage, and a musical celebration with Dennis Hawk, who is an ordained minister, spiritual counselor, Native American, Sanskrit Scholar and kirtan singer . Open to the public, these events intend to increase our awareness to the Blessings of this holiday.

Please check the links below for further information.

I will spend my Christmas in Germany this year, but wherever you may be, be safe, be in the Light, and be free.

Sat Nam, Namaste, Blessings,

Hans
